Garza Makes It Five

Posted by David on July 27th, 2010

Matt Garza threw the first no-hitter in Tampa Bay Rays history. It came Monday night against the Detroit Tigers. It was the fifth (should have been six) no-hitter in the bizarre 2010 season.

Also this season, Oakland’s Dallas Braden and Philadelphia’s Roy Halladay threw perfect games. On top of that, Armando Galaragga of the Tigers was denied a perfect game due to a blown call. In addition to these, Colorado ace Ubaldo Jimenez and Arizona’s Edwin Jackson also have no-hitters this season.

Right now, the New York Mets and San Diego Padres are the only two teams in Major League Baseball without a no-hitter in their history. Even Bud Smith has one.

Trade Carter

Posted by David on July 27th, 2010

That’s a V……….C……….3

The Magic will once again be a legitimate threat for the Eastern Conference Championship. However, Boston won it last year, and there is no real convincing reason as to why Orlando can overtake Boston. The teams are on equal footing, so anything can happen. But with the Miami powerhouse that emerged this off-season, the other Florida team should make a move.

That move should involve Vince Carter’s expiring contract. There is a team option on it for the 2011-2012 season, which will obviously not be picked up. With other teams making moves, the Magic should be one of those teams. Carter’s contract should be dealt for a player that could contribute for the next few years. He seems to be getting worse by the year, and honestly, J.J. Reddick would seem like a better starting shooting guard at this point than Carter.

Even a fellow expiring contract like Jason Richardson would be a better fit. But beyond that, perhaps taking a risk on someone like Gilbert Arenas or Elton Brand is what this team needs. Chris Paul is not going to be dealt, so any hopes of a deal like Nelson, Carter, and draft picks for Paul and Okafor can be thrown out the window. This team can compete for a championship, but it still may be missing a piece. While winning 60 games is not out of reach for this squad, getting past the Celtics, Heat, and Lakers with this current team seems like a long shot. Anything can happen, and from a trade standpoint, something should happen.

2010 Dolphins Primed for the Second ever 0-16 NFL season?

Posted by boom on July 8th, 2010

With NFL mini camps off to a whirling start in the early months of July Dolphins fans all over the country and in the sunshine state are speculating where the team will end up concluding the 2010 season. Well bloggers you heard it here first, the 2010 Dolphins will not win a game in their upcoming season. Read below to find out my reasoning, and yes it is all factual information.

1) Serena Williams, Jimmy Buffet, J Lo and Marc Anthony are just a few who have stake in partial ownership of the team, who’s next?… Lady Gaga… The owners becoming more worried about the spectacle surrounding the game rather than the team on the field is one reason why these fish will flounder.

2) Chad Henne, the big bad Michigan alum will take the reins as the full-time starter, this proven vet definitely bodes well for the fins who have many questions surrounding various aspects of the team…. NOT!!! Chad Henne is about as unproven as Jamarcus Russell was when he was taken first overall by the Oakland Raiders a few seasons ago. We all know what ended up happening with that hamburglar experiment, (here is a little sip sip in cell block 29 refresher). Ohh well maybe the Fins could throw Ronnie Brown back there, after all he does have better career #’s in INT’s and a better QB rating. (o INTS vs Henne’s 14 … 101.2 rating vs Henne’s meager 75.2) .

3) Brandon Marshall aka TO v.2 aka team killer will be added to a cast who could not handle the outspokenness of Joey Porter. Brandon Marshall’s “I come first” mentality will be to much to handle for a team trying to figure out its own identity. Bill Parcells: “Are we a throwing team with a good run game, or are we a good ground team with a quality receiver? What buffet am I eating for lunch?” The fins a run-first orientated team will not blend well with Marshall’s attitude and NO Karlos Dansby is not enough to save them… Ohhh well at least he can take some comfort in the fact he is getting paid like a top WR in the game, to bad he will not be utilized like one.

4) (Insert) Slew of other reasons which can not be disclosed at this time in fear of Boom’s crystal ball being stolen, or smashed apart by angry Fins’ fans. Stay tuned for more factual reasons why the fins will flounder in 2010.

My crystal ball insight does not lie kiddies. Laugh now but come December when the above factors take effect and 0-16 is a reality you will look back on this article and realize BOOM told you so … YESS!!!!

Bosh Landing

Posted by David on July 7th, 2010

Dwayne Wade finally has some help in Miami. It is confirmed that Chris Bosh will be joining the superstar, and both will be playing for the Heat. No information has been leaked whether or not it will be in a sign-and-trade, or if he will just outright sign with the Heat. Regardless, Miami Heat fans can now breath.

Since winning the NBA Championship with Shaquille O’Neal by his side in 2006, Wade has been longing for a legitimate sidekick. And now, he finally found one.

D Wade A Lock In Miami?

Posted by boom on June 16th, 2010

While nothing in this world is guaranteed most people feel there is one sure thing going into the NBA off-season free agency. D Wade will ultimately stay in Miami and try to recruit someone most likely a big man to join him.

Why would D Wade want to leave Miami? For starters the only true young talent on a team with 47 wins during the 2009-2010 season is Michael Beasley. Mario Chalmers has already shown that he cannot handle starting and will probably never get the chance again during his career. Jermaine O’Neal is no longer the player he was on the Pacers and Quentin Richardson had one good year with the Suns. What happens if Wade is not able to get someone formidable to join him down in South Beach? Uhh Ohh

Wade might be better off going to a team that has more young quality talent and a better supporting cast. Rather then take a gamble and try to get someone to come and play for the Heat. At 28 Wade wants to win now or within the next few seasons, by staying with Miami he might not get those wins now or even in a few seasons if a quality teammate fails to join him.

Rays’ fall back to Earth was inevitable

Posted by GameSetMatch on June 1st, 2010

Just nine days ago, the Tampa Bay Rays were 20 games over .500 and headed for a 118-win season, if only they could keep it up.

If you thought they could, though, you were dreaming.

No team has kept the pace they were on for an entire season. The major-league record for wins in the regular season is 116.

I mention this for a couple of reasons. It illustrates just how well the Rays navigated the first seven weeks, and it also shows this current patch of rough road is not really surprising.

One of the reasons “Moneyball” became popular to the point of cliché in baseball is that it showed that performance really is mathematically predictable. Little more than a week ago – on May 23 – the Rays were 32-12 after beating Houston 10-6. They’ve lost six of eight since then, including a supremely frustrating 3-2 setback Monday night at Toronto.

Brandon Marshall Misses Practice

Posted by David on May 19th, 2010

Newly acquired wide-receiver Brandon Marshall was unable to compete in the Miami Dolphins practice held on Wednesday, May 19th. But hold your breath Dolphins fans; it was due to injury. Marshall has sat out practices in the past due to questionable behavior, but this one was due to an undisclosed injury. While he was working out on an exercise bike, Marshall was trying to pick up all the information he could.

The Dolphins will need Marshall to pick up all that information and produce another 1,000-yard season. In a division with the Jets, who made it to last year’s AFC Championship, and the Patriots, who are always a threat, it will not be an easy upcoming season for Miami. If Marshall is not on his best behavior, then the Dolphins will have little change of success. Even if Marshall is on good behavior, the Dolphins still have their work cut out for them. But if Marshall can excel, then who knows what could be in store for the Dolphins this season.

Magic take advantage of 21 Bobcats turnovers for 2-0 series lead

Posted by GameSetMatch on April 22nd, 2010

The Vince Carter-Dwight Howard duo again wasn’t so dynamic — just good enough to win.

For now, that’s all the Orlando Magic need.

Carter finished with 19 points, Howard scored 15 and the Magic took a 2-0 series lead with a 92-77 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday night.
“Fortunate thing for us,” Carter said, “is we have a lot of weapons.”
The Magic’s star combo was less than stellar, but took over when it counted most. They combined for 21 second-half points to help Orlando build a 20-point lead and hold on late.
Still, they know they’ll have to be better to compete for a title.

Howard’s defensive play lauded again

Posted by GameSetMatch on April 21st, 2010

Dwight Howard won his second straight NBA defensive player of the year award Tuesday after becoming the only player to lead the league in blocks and rebounds in the same season twice — let alone in consecutive years.

The Orlando Magic’s All-Star center received 576 total points, including 110 first-place votes from a panel of 122 writers and broadcasters. Atlanta’s Josh Smith was second with 136 points, and Charlotte’s Gerald Wallace finished third with 113 points.

Already the youngest player ever with two NBA defensive player of the year awards, just how many could he eventually win?

During a news conference to announce the honor, Magic general manager Otis Smith raised his hands, all 10 fingers dangling. Howard laughed, smiled and nodded his head.
