By virtue of Albert Pujols going 0 for 4 Saturday and Hanley Ramirez going 1 for 2, the Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! will probably have their first batting champion.
Ramirez, who entered the game 11 for his past 62, hit an RBI double in the first and lined out in the third before exiting with a right knee contusion suffered on a steal of third in the first inning.
Ramirez raised his average to .342, 13 points ahead of Pujols. Pablo Sandoval began the day at .329. The Giant could finish 8 for 8 and still wouldn’t catch Ramirez.
“I know I was struggling, but I wasn’t looking on the computer to see what they were hitting,” Ramirez said. “I don’t think I did it myself. Everybody gave me little tips. I dedicate it for everybody in here.”

He has started back-to-back All-Star Games, put up early numbers comparable to some of the best ever at his position, is a popular No.1 pick in fantasy leagues and is having the season of his life
But what may be unnerving to some of history’s greatest shortstops is this: Hanley Ramirez is still getting better.
“Every time I see him, he does something that’s very impressive,” Hall of Famer Hank Aaron said. “He’s got all the tools — everything.”
In one 6-foot-3, 225-pound body, Ramirez can hit for average like Derek Jeter, drive the ball out of the park like Ernie Banks, run like Honus Wagner and play above-average defense — perhaps not Ozzie Smith-like, but very respectable, after some major improvements.

Not too long ago, Jackie and Dennis Camacho weren’t even sure how long their son would be alive. Back on June 24, 2008, 9-year-old Sebastian Camacho was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and his parents immediately thought the worst.
Now, though, not only is Sebastian in remission and cancer-free, but he was healthy as a fish while gliding on the field at Land Shark Stadium before the opener of a three-game series against the Braves on Tuesday. He even played himself up to the level of superstar Hanley Ramirez. Sebastian, who was a special visitor of Ramirez’s as part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, got his own locker in the Marlins’ clubhouse — right next to the Marlins’ shortstop — a personalized No. 11 jersey, batting gloves and an authentic “H2R” Ramirez fielding glove.

President of baseball operations gives credit to young core
Battling through adversity, the Marlins hope, will pay dividends for the young team in the second half. The Marlins are wrapping up their first half on Sunday at Arizona, and the team will head into the All-Star break no worse than tied for second place in the National League East. Heading into the day, they were one game ahead of Atlanta, and four in back of Philadelphia.
“We’re in striking distance of the division, which is always a good thing,” Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest said. “We’re hopeful that the experience some of the young guys got in the first half, they will continue to improve in the second half.” The Marlins are in the hunt largely because of All-Stars Hanley Ramirez and Josh Johnson.

Hanley Ramirez took a well-deserved curtain call Thursday night. Cody Ross and Dan Uggla each drilled two-run home runs in Florida’s 11-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles, which moved the Marlins to within one game of the first-place Phillies in the National League East.
But it was Ramirez who delivered the knockout punch. With two outs in the eighth inning, he drilled a 1-2 pitch over the left-field scoreboard for his third grand slam of the year and his second slam in three games. “It feels good when you see those fans cheering for you and the whole team. It’s a different feeling,” Ramirez said after he acknowledged a long ovation from 12,822.
